Bengaluru: A 26-year-old woman was detained for entering the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) with a fake e-ticket, police officials said on Monday. The suspect was identified as Harpreet Kaur Saini, who hailed from Jharkhand and worked in Bengaluru.

On Sunday, Harpreet entered Terminal 1 and showed her e-ticket for the Bengaluru-Ranchi IndiGo flight at the departure gate, police said. A short while later, she told the officials that she left her laptop at the city side and exited the Passenger Terminal Building (PTB).

She was stopped at the check-in counter and when IndiGo staff checked her e-ticket, they found it was fake. When asked, Saini admitted to editing the e-ticket as she wanted to enter the terminal to drop off her friend at the Pre-Embarkation Security Check (PESC) area.

The KIA police booked Saini under IPC Sections 465 (punishment for forgery) and 471 (using as genuine a forged 1 [document or electronic record]).

“She was released from detention after she was questioned,” a senior police officer told DH.

“She was served a notice under Section 41A (notice of appearance before police officer) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).”
