While Gauramma (32) and her daughter Shilpa (17) died, her son Sridhar is battling for life at a city hospital.
Gauramma was married to Naga Boraiah and the couple were residing at Ramachandrapura near Ittamadu. Boraiah, a security supervisor and an alcoholic spent most of his earnings on his drinking habits leading to frequent quarrels between the couple. Gauramma worked as a domestic help and managed the house and children’s education.
Recently, Shilpa’s grandparents had bought her a cellphone which Boraiah sold to support his drinking habit, upsetting Gauramma and Shilpa.
According to another version, a youth in the area would pester Shilpa, but the latter refused to reciprocate. Shilpa was pursuing her 10th standard at a near-by school. Though Shilpa had complained to her father, he was a mute spectator. All these developments might have driven the family to the suicide, police added.
A death note written by Shilpa stated that her mother had borrowed Rs 5,000 from a neighbour and requested her grandparents to clear the debt.
On Tuesday around late evening, Gauramma locked the house from inside and hanged.
The police are awaiting for Sridhar’s statement.
