A 28-year-old homemaker was murdered and valuables looted from her house in Goraguntepalya under the RMC Yard police limits on Tuesday.

According to police, the victim has been identified as Parijatha. She had recently quit her job as a teacher at a private school. She was living with her husband Vijaykumar, a businessman, two children and her mother.

On Tuesday afternoon, Parijatha had gone to see off her mother who was visiting her relatives. She returned home and went about her daily chores. Around 2 pm, the assailants entered her house, used pepper spray on her before smothering her. They fled the spot after looting the valuables, the police said.

The incident came to light when her husband came back home and found her dead. He called the police, who rushed to the spot.

There was a strong odour of pepper spray and it is suspected that the assailants have used the spray to render Parijatha unconscious. There was no sign of forceful entry and the house was not ransacked.

“It could be the handiwork of someone known to the family and they may have studied the movements of the family members” said a senior police officer. A case has been registered and the police have formed a special team to apprehend the suspects.
