Woman gang-raped in coffee estate

A woman was gang-raped by three unidentified men who offered her a lift in their car at Uchchangi village under Yasaluru police station limits in the taluk, on Thursday night. One person has been arrested  in this connection.

The 28-year-old victim from a village in Arkalgud taluk, was a daily wage labourer at a coffee plantation in Uchchangi. She had reached Changadihalli from her native place and was waiting for a bus at the bus stop around 8 pm. Jaya Poojari, Pavan and Puttaswamy, all residents of Uchchangi, who knew the woman well, were passing by the bus stand and spotted the victim. They offered her a drop to Uchchangi in their car as they were also bound for the village. On the way, they took the woman to a coffee plantation at Bekkanahalli and  raped her.

 Following a complaint, Puttaswamy was arrested and the car seized, said Inspector Manjaiah. Deputy Superintendent of Police Jayaram visited the spot.
