Woman held at KIA with gold in underwear

Customs officials at the Kempegowda International Airport on Monday arrested a woman passenger and seized gold powder worth Rs 24.33 lakh, which

she had hidden in her innerwear.

The accused Shaheda Bano, a resident of Mumbai, arrived at KIA from Abu Dhabi and was intercepted by
customs officials after profiling.

Officials said the gold powder was concealed in two layers of her innerwear. A total quantity of 796.18 gm of gold powder was mixed with other pasty material and was smeared between the two layers
of the innerwear, an official said. This is the second such incident where customs officials have stumbled on women smuggling gold in their innerwear.

Earlier this week, they arrested one Sakeena Shaikh, who tried to smuggle 853.4 gm of gold powder mixed with other materials hid in her innerwear. She was also a resident of Mumbai.

In another case, officials seized 1207.951 gm of gold from two passengers from Dubai on Monday.

During profiling, the custom officials recovered crude gold jewelry (24 Carat) concealed on the passengers’ body and in their hand baggage. The accused are residents of Salem in Tamil Nadu.
