The JC Nagar police on Friday arrested a woman and her paramour for killing her husband. The woman and her paramour may have gone scot free if the police were late even by 10 minutes in reaching the crematorium, where the cremation of 57-year-old Maan Singh was to take place.

Based on a tip-off, the police arrested Singh’s wife Chandrabai (37). During the interrogation, she confessed to police that she and her paramour Ashok (35), a resident of SR Nagar, strangled her husband Singh as he opposed their affair.

Housekeepers

Chandrabai and Maan Singh, residents of Thimmegowda Road in JC Nagar, were housekeepers in a private firm. Ashok, too, was into the housekeeping albeit in a different firm.

Chandrabai had quit the firm and had joined the firm where Ashok was employed, about eight months ago. Within no time, Chandrabai and Ashok got onto an affair, said the police.

She had invited Ashok to her house on May 4 as Singh was away in Hoskote.  Singh returned home around 11 pm and spotted his wife in Ashok’s arms on the bed. He became furious and thrashed his her and Ashok. In retaliation, Ashok hit Singh, who collapsed.

“She told Ashok that they could marry each other if Singh was eliminated. Ashok mustered courage, took towel and strangled Singh. Later, Chandrabai sent him to his house. During early wee hours of the next day, she consumed liquor and kept the body outside her house and started weeping. She claimed that her husband died of some ailment. Chandrabai arranged a procession for the funeral and went towards the Hebbal crematorium, said a police officer.

The police received a call from a local resident around 4 pm on Friday claiming that Singh could have been murdered over an affair.

Based on Chandrabai’s inputs, the police detained Ashok. The police have taken Ashok into their custody for four days for investigation.
