The police identified the deceased as Bhanupriya (25), a homemaker. Her son, who suffered head injuries, was taken to a private hospital. He was later shifted to Nimhans, where doctors are closely monitoring his condition.

The woman and her son were walking back home, about 2 km away in Palanjogihalli, when the accident took place near Nelamangala-Doddaballapur Road around 12.30 pm.

The police said Bhanupriya and the child were walking on a narrow dirt road when the car hit them and sped off. Bhanupriya was flung in the air. She fell down and suffered a head injury, which turned fatal. The child suffered head injuries.

Bhanupriya, who lived with her husband and two sons, was returning home after submitting her elder child's documents at school.

The police have identified some cars and are making efforts to zero in on the one involved in the deadly hit-and-run, a senior officer overseeing the case said.

The Doddaballapur Rural police have opened a case under BNS sections 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 106 (causing death by negligence).
