Bengaluru: A 28-year-old woman was booked in a criminal case after she allegedly hit an autorickshaw driver in southeastern Bengaluru on Friday.
Police sources said that Pankhuri Mishra, who works for a technology company, appeared at the Bellandur station on Sunday morning and was questioned before being released on station bail.
"As per her statement, the woman, originally from Bihar, and her husband were returning from a hospital visit. It was then that the autorickshaw brushed against their two-wheeler. The woman has claimed that the auto driver was in the wrong and did not behave appropriately, so she hit him. The statement has been recorded, and she has been directed to appear when needed,” a police source said.
The incident occurred near Centro Mall, Bellandur, between 3 pm and 4 pm. A video of the incident was also shared widely on social media, where the woman was seen hitting the auto driver with her chappal as he continued to record her.
Lokesh, 33, the auto driver, told the police that two people on a two-wheeler, including the woman, accused him of brushing against their vehicle and then assaulted and abused him. Based on this, the FIR was registered by the Bellandur police.
Members of pro-Kannada organisations gathered outside the police station on Sunday, demanding strict action against Pankhuri.
