The women’s empowerment wing of Gubbivani Trust is organising a women’s film festival this weekend at Bangalore International Centre. Nine films will be screened at the event called ‘Avala Hejje Women’s Kannada Short Film Festival’. According to a note, these films will throw light on the intimate, political, and ordinary lives of women, navigating memory, identity, and place. The screenings will be followed by a Q&A session with the directors.
Eight films directed by women will compete for the Best Film award — ‘On Line’ directed by Sathya Promod M S, ‘Cake Walk’ by Sinchana Shailesh, ‘Unheard Echoes’ by Kavitha B Naik, ‘The Last Happy Customer’ by Mandara Battalahalli, ‘Pushpa’ by Kshama Ambekallu, ‘Ubhaya’ by Chandana Nag, ‘Solo Traveller’ by Manasa U Sharma, and ‘How Are You?’ by Trupthi Kulkarni.
‘Neerellavu Theertha’, directed by Yashiv and produced by Renuka Yallappa Malligar, will premiere at the fest. “We are screening ‘Neerella Theertha’ because it’s produced by a woman,” said Shanthala Damle, program director.
