Bengaluru: A one-kilometre stretch in the Yeshwantpur industrial area, which has been in poor condition for years, will be white-topped by March next year.
BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath, during his visit to the RR Nagar Zone on Friday, directed officials to complete the work on schedule.
"White-topping work is underway on the 950-meter-long MEI Road and has been ongoing for the past two months. We closed the road on both sides after obtaining permission from the traffic police. The water pipeline, sanitary line, duct installation, and electrical line chamber works are almost complete, and footpath work is in progress," he said.
During his visit, Girinath also inspected rajakaluve (stormwater drain) work near Thanneerhalla and the railway quarters near the Yeshwantpur railway station, where a 200-meter-long pipeline is being laid at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore to prevent waterlogging.
He then visited Nagarbhavi Lake, where retaining wall work is ongoing at the inlet. After surveying the area, the chief commissioner instructed officials to fence the vacant space designated for a garden next to the lake.
The 1.04-kilometre-long white-topping work on Kuvempu Main Road, from Kengeri Old Ring Road to Amma Ashram, is expected to be completed by the end of February, he added.
Girinath also addressed public complaints personally at the zonal commissioner’s office. He announced that Kodipalya Main Road would be widened, offering Transferable Development Right (TDR) certificates to land-losers.
He also instructed lake officials to visit Herohalli Lake, where citizens reported a foul smell emanating in the area around 1.5 km.
