experimental Sunny Leone in 'Mastizaade'.

She’s sensual, she’s glamourous and she is almost always the talk of the town. Bollywood actress Sunny Leone, who is in the limelight now, will be seen onscreen in the upcoming adult comedy ‘Mastizaade’, along with Tusshar Kapoor and Vir Das.

She is excited and looking forward to the audience enjoying it. The actress of Canadian-origin says that though it is her first time in a comedy film, the experience was nothing less than exciting.

What is different about your role in ‘Mastizaade’?

Unlike all the movies I have done, this is my first comedy film. I’m very excited. I have a double role in the movie — of two sisters. One of the sisters, Laila, is a very sexy, outrageous, glamourous and confident woman. On the other hand, Lily is the complete opposite. She is dorky, clumsy and a lot more conservative than her sister. The audience will get to see a different me.

How was the experience?

It was a lot of fun. I got to work in a movie that has fascinating people. There are great actors from the genre and people who have been in the genre before along with a great director and a great producer. It was an amazing set to work on. While working on an adult comedy, one has to have people who are secure, funny and confident about themselves, around you. And this was just that.

Funny moments from the sets...

Every single day brought something special with it, be it while shooting for a song or a scene. Tusshar would always get to the sets first, despite leaving after us from the hotel. He would always be the first one to get ready. It was amazing how he would do this. He wouldalways message, ‘Hey guys, you’re late!’ on WhatsApp, and we would all crack up.
It was a little fun game we had.

Vir was always joking around on the sets. There was one time when we were shooting across the street near a McDonalds, and we both were on a diet. We tried fighting the temptation but finally ended up having burgers together.

Your view on item numbers.
Directors and production houses make movies because they have a passion for it. Every movie should make money and the team will do anything and everything to make sure that their project does well. I don’t see what the big deal is. I’ve only heard the terms ‘item song’ and ‘item girl’ in India. In the West, when people think about Bollywood films, it is the songs that come to their minds first. They talk about how artistes break out
in synchronised dance moves in the middle of Times Square, New York or at a park.

You recently revealed that you will not endorse tobacco or tobacco related products.

I’m not endorsing a product that has tobacco in it. We heard reports that there are certain ingredients in the product I was connected to, that cause cancer. If that is the case, I will not be renewing my contract. As far as smoking and tobacco chewing is concerned, I’m completely against it. My father died of cancer and though the doctors say that it was not because of the cigarettes, I believe otherwise. Like, in the US, it is not cool to smoke anymore. You can’t smoke on the streets, restaurants or anywhere in public, apart from at designated areas. This rule should be applied across the world.

The recent interview with a TV channel which has been buzzing on all social media, has made Sunny the talk of the town again. People from B-town to the common man have stepped out in support...

The experience wasn’t fun. It wasn’t something that I was comfortable with, but I also didn’t want to walk away. I do not want any single person, man or woman, to get the best of me. I wasn’t going to lose control and it wasn’t easy. The interview felt more like an interrogation.
Everybody has their own sensibilities and they do things. There have been many who have sent supportive and loving messages. I didn’t think this would happen; infact I was worried the opposite would. Thankfully, people felt what I felt.

Positive thoughts have been buzzing on the social media and I’m thankful for all the support.

Lessons learnt from the industry.

I’ve been trying to take everything with a pinch of salt. Everyone has their own journey and their own past. And you have to learn from your mistakes. I believe that one can only be hurt and affected if they let people affect them. I’ve always reminded myself this.
