Science has a solution to every man-made mess, young scientists from across the country proved at 'The Amateur Scientist 2018', a science fest organised by PES University on Saturday.
The budding scientists demonstrated simple and affordable solutions to everyday problems faced by people in cities. The fest drew nearly 8,000 students of high school and PUC (or equivalent courses) streams from 22 cities across the country. Science project competition, model making competition, ideathon and code wars were some of the contests. The projects ranged from intelligent mechanical arrangements to the use of Internet of Things (IoT) and bots. But more than these, students solved real-world problems in agriculture, space and transmission of electricity to name a few.
Swetlana, a science enthusiast, said: "The projects demonstrated by the students show potential future innovations in various fields. The students showed the easy way to tackle the issues when the government is spending crores on them. These kids should be encouraged and their innovations should be taken to the next level. Innovative thinking by kids at this age is brilliant where they are ensuring their safety in the future while the mankind has ruined natural resources."
Waste management, rainwater harvesting, robotics, water purification process, extraction of oil from seawater, smart mirror and self-irrigation system were the highlights of the science fest.
