Following a drunken brawl, a 27-year-old youth was stabbed to death by his friend near a bar at Hennur in Banaswadi area on Sunday night.
Keshavamurthy, an unemployed youth, and his friend Somashekar, both residents of Kacharakanahalli, went to a bar near Hennur. Soon after, Somashekar asked Keshavamurthy to return the borrowed money. But Keshavamurthy tried to avoid the topic.
While returning home, Somashekar broached the subject again, leading to a heated argument. In a fit of rage, Keshavamurthy tried to stab his friend with a sharp object, but Somashekar, who sustained injuries, overpowered and fatally stabbed Keshavamurthy on his chest, the police said.
Passersby rushed the duo to hospital, but Keshavamurthy was declared brought dead. Somashekar has been taken into police custody.
A few common friends of the duo informed the police that the two were good friends. But a dispute over Rs 2,000 cost Keshavamurthy his life.
