Bengaluru: A city civil court on Wednesday passed an ex-parte interim order restraining the media from publishing or telecasting any defamatory allegations and comments against actress Harshavardini Ranya Rao, who was arrested in the gold smuggling case.

The court passed this order in the application filed by H P Rohini, the mother of the actress. The applicant claimed that in the guise of fair journalism, the media houses are telecasting and publishing news, which are derogatory and defamatory in nature, to increase their TRP ratings. She said that such action amounted to a 'trial by media'.

She further contended that the media is using misleading headlines, with exaggerated narratives to create a false perception which harms the personal integrity of her daughter.
