Bidar: The state government on Friday declared a compensation of Rs 18 lakh to the family of Giri Venkatesh, a staffer of cash transfer agency, who was shot dead by dacoits in Bidar on Thursday.

Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre met the family members of Venkatesh at Bemalakheda village in Chitaguppa taluk of Bidar district and consoled them. The minister said that a compensation of Rs 8 lakh would be paid from the Social Welfare department and another Rs 10 lakh would be paid after discussing the matter with the chief minister. He said that Giri’s mother would get a monthly allowance of Rs 5,000 and one of his family members would be appointed in the Social Welfare department as an outsourced employee.

A 37-year-old Venkatesh died on the spot, while his colleague  Shivakumar suffered grievous injuries when two unidentified assailants fired at them, before fleeing with a trunk containing Rs 92 lakh in the heart of the city on Thursday morning. 

He said that the government would meet the treatment expenses of Shivakumar. He is under treatment at Hyderabad. 

Additional Director General of Police P Harishekaran, who addressed a press meet, said that the dacoits had been identified and Bidar police were in Hyderabad to make the arrests.
