Biodiversity Committeein Koppa is a model: Expert

Members of the Koppa rural panchayat Biodiversity Committee has succeeded in preparing a list of rare medicinal and other plants scientifically. The committee in association with Ayurvedic College and Shringeri JCBM College has conducted trekking on Kotegudda in the panchayat and collected information on about 195 rare medicinal plants.

In addition, information on animals, birds, heriditary medicines and history of the village was also compiled for the book to be published by the State Biodiversity Board. Plant species found during the study will be preserved inside the Ayurvedic College premises. Meanwhile, initiatives were taken to protect some rare species at its original place itself.

Ayurvedic College Principal Sanjay, Shivanna, Umesh Achar of Prahodhini Gurukula, lecturer Kumaraswamy and other committee members were conducting studies for the past 3 years.
