The BJP on Saturday demanded action against Vijayapura-based Muslim cleric Sayed Tanveer Hashmi for his “provocative” remark on the slaughter of cows.
“It is a matter of great regret that no action has been initiated against the Moulvi. The BJP strongly condemns this inaction on the part of Vijayapura district police as well as the district administration,” BJP Cow Protection Cell convenor Siddhartha Goenka said.
“What is even more atrocious is that the Moulvi has made these remarks in the presence of a Cabinet minister. It is strongly condemnable that the minister remained silent instead of asking the Moulvi to amend his talk,” he said, referring to Health and Family Welfare Minister Shivanand Patil.
On June 16, when Hashmi was addressing an Eid-ul-Fitr mass prayer, he reportedly said cows will be sacrificed during Bakrid, and that “another sacrifice was also possible.”
