Bengaluru: The BJP on Saturday announced a series of protests against the hike of milk prices, suspension of its 18 MLAs and 4 per cent reservation for Muslims in government contracts starting from April 2.
After a meeting with the party leaders, BJP state president B Y Vijayendra said a day-and-night protest would be staged at 11 am in Freedom Park on April 2 against the milk price hike.
“All BJP lawmakers, former MLAs, defeated candidates, district presidents and office-bearers will participate,” Vijayendra said. “Then, there’ll be protests at district headquarters on April 4 and in mandals on April 5.”
On April 2, the BJP will also stage a protest at the Kengal Hanumanthaiah statue on the Vidhana Soudha premises against Speaker UT Khader’s decision to suspend 18 MLAs.
“The Speaker’s dictatorial attitude is wrong and anti-Constitutional. We’ll submit a representation to the Speaker, whose decision is against the mandate of the people in constituencies represented by the suspended MLAs,” Vijayendra said.
“Until the suspension is withdrawn, no BJP MLA or MLC will attend legislature committee meetings,” Vijayendra added. After April 10, top BJP leaders will tour all districts to create awareness against the government’s decision to introduce reservations for Muslims in contracts. “We will oppose this unconstitutional move,” Vijayendra said.
