Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Anand Singh inaugurated the Tipu Jayanti event in Hosapete on Friday.
"There has been a controversy over celebrating Tipu Jayanti, and BJP, the party I represent, is against Tipu Jayanti. But, for me the people of my constituency matter the most," Singh said.
He said that no political party should divide society on communal lines. "Humanity is greater than all religions."
Addressing a press meet at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, Jagadish Shettar, said that BJP had been clearly opposing Tipu Jayanti celebrations. "But, some partymen have attended the event. We will consider it seriously and initiate stringent action against them.
