Davangere: BJP Kisan Morcha activists staged a protest in Davangere on Tuesday demanding stern legal action against the accused who allegedly chopped the udders of three cows at Chamarajpet in Bengaluru recently.
The agitating activists who gathered at Gundi Mahadevappa Circle expressed anger and held the state government responsible for the incident. They raised slogans against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Housing Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan and the Congress party and observed a 'Black Sankranti' with cows.
"The incident of chopping off udders of cows during Sankranti has caused distress. It appears to be a premeditated act. The police have arrested the accused but the state government is trying to protect him," the protesters alleged and criticised the delay in taking legal action against the person who hurt Hindu sentiments.
"In Indian culture, a cow is revered as equivalent to a mother. We consider cow's milk as sacred as mother's milk. We perform rituals with milk, curd, and ghee. During the Makara Sankranti festival, we worship cows. This heinous incident is not accidental but a systematic act," alleged district BJP President Rajashekar Nagappa.
'Anti-Hindu govt'
He added that the accused is purposely being portrayed as mentally unstable. The stand of Zameer Ahmed and the Congress is a matter of concern. Siddaramaiah, who claims to care for farmers, has reduced grants to gowshalas. The state government's decisions are anti-Hindu. It is trying to cover up the case but people will teach Congress a lesson.
BJP district unit former president Yashwantrao Jadhav said cow is sacred for Hindus. The act of harming cows cannot be justified even if Zameer Ahmed donates 100 cows. Such incidents are recurring due to the Congress government's minority appeasement policy.
He said such acts can be checked only if strict laws are enforced against those involved in Love Jihad, those with pro-Pakistan sentiments, and extremists.
Kisan Morcha State Vice-President Lokikere Nagaraj, BJP leaders N A Murugesh, Shivanahalli Ramesh, Anil Kumar, Raghunandan Ambarakar, N H Halesh, H N Gurunath, G S Shyam, Malalakere Sadanand, Channagiri Lohith Kumar, H P Vishwas, Srinivas Bhat and others took part in the protest.
