In a major show of strength, the Opposition BJP has organised a massive rally to Dharmasthala, with thousands expected to participate in over 400 vehicles on Saturday. Yelahanka MLA and senior BJP leader S R Vishwanath detailed the plan on Friday, highlighting the party’s commitment to safeguarding Hindu temples and traditions.

Preparations are underway for a week in response to a ‘smear campaign’ by some YouTubers and social media influencers against the revered Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara temple and its Dharmadhikari, Veerendra Heggade.

Vishwanath stated that the BJP welcomed the state government’s formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe alleged mysterious murders but opposed the smear campaign targeting the temple town, deity, and Dharmadhikari.

The rally’s key moment will be taking a pledge at Dharmasthala to uphold Hindu rights and protect temple sanctity across Karnataka. Vishwanath said the group will arrive by 3 PM, have lunch, seek divine blessings, and take the pledge collectively.

Key BJP leaders, including state president B Y Vijayendra, Leader of the Opposition R Ashoka, and 30–35 MLAs, from Udupi, Mangaluru, Chikkamagaluru, and Hassan districts will join on Sunday to address workers post-temple visit.

During the visit, BJP leaders are also expected to meet the Dharmadhikari and express the party’s moral support in light of recent developments surrounding the temple
town.

Vishwanth noted that supporters will assemble at various points, including Vishwanath’s residence at 5.45 am, Hesaraghatta, and near Nelamangala toll plaza.

‘Save Dharmasthala’

Each vehicle will have saffron flags, and four to five people inside, all wearing saffron stoles. There will be three saffron-colored stickers on each vehicle with the messages: “Save Dharmasthala,” “We are with Dharmasthala,” and “Dharmasthala Chalo.” Vehicles will be assigned serial numbers, with ambulances and mechanics accompanying the rally.

Vishwanath expressed pride as planned vehicles doubled from 200 to over 400. He also mentioned that a party convention might take place on August 24, although this has not yet been confirmed.
