The state BJP has now roped in 6,000 volunteers for its "Raitha Bandu" farmers' outreach programme, which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Davangere last month.

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar, who is the election in-charge of the state, told reporters here on Saturday that the volunteers will visit each and every household of farmers in the state ahead of the polls.

The volunteers will contrast the approach of the BJP and the Congress towards farmers. The volunteers will symbolically collect food grains from farmers. 'Raitha Mitra' meetings will be held in every gram panchayat in the state, he said.

Javadekar said the campaign will go on till April 6. Between April 8-10, there will be mass partaking of food prepared from the grains collected.

He said Bengaluru has been experiencing unscheduled power cuts for the last 10 days. "This reflects on the failure of governance by the state government. When the Centre has done so much for augmentation of power supply and assuring every state with facilitator mechanism, Bengaluru is witnessing power outages."
