BJP state president B Y Vijayendra, who participated in the party’s Foundation Day celebrations in Bengaluru on Sunday said that the yatra, which would go on till May 3, would be carried out in four phases. He said Union Minister Pralhad Joshi would launch the yatra after offering puja at Chamundeshwari temple in Mysuru.

R Ashoka and Chalavadi T Narayanaswamy, leaders of Opposition in the Assembly and Council respectively, said that the rally was aimed at drawing attention to the “appeasement politics” of Congress, besides the problems faced by the people owing to the hike in prices, and the rampant corruption.

“Now, the CM is collecting money from people for collection of garbage, with cess being levied even on vacant sites and plots. The government is likely to collect anywhere between Rs 1,500 crore and Rs 2,000 crore in commission,” he said.

Ashoka claimed that providing reservation to Muslims in government tenders would result in nearly 70% of contracts being awarded to contractors from that community.

Narayanaswamy said that the ‘Janakrosha Yatra’ would culminate with a massive convention in B’luru on May 3.

Meanwhile, Vijayendra said that, as part of the BJP’s ‘Foundation Day’ celebrations, party leaders from Karnataka would participate in the week-long ‘Grama Chalo’ programme. “Party workers and leaders will meet voters and beneficiaries of the Centre’s schemes in villages, and reconnect with people at the grassroots. Workers will also organise temple cleaning drives as part of the Shramdaan initiative,” he added.
