The BJP would scrap the Karnataka Private Medical Establishment (KPME) bill, if it becomes a law, within 24 hours in the event of the party coming to power.

Addressing reporters here on Wednesday, BJP state president Yeddyurappa appealed to the protesting doctors to withdraw their agitation and have patience for the next three months. "The government has formulated the bill in a hurry without consulting experts. If the BJP comes to power, there will be no such law," he said.

Yeddyurappa said there was no certainty of patients coming back alive if they go to government hospitals. "No treatment is available without money. The government is playing with the lives of the people," he said.

He said the bill should have been drawn up after holding consultations with representatives of private hospitals.

Yeddyurappa said that he would appeal to the doctors to withdraw their protest, when he visits Belagavi.
