Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was at the receiving end of a spirited attack by BJP leaders, who slammed the CM for his “unprofessional” conduct with a senior police officer at a public event in Belagavi on Monday.

After Siddaramaiah attributed the terror attack in Pahalgam to the Centre’s intelligence failure, Leader of Opposition in the Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy decided to pay the CM back in the same coin. Referring to the demonstration organised by the BJP Mahila Morcha at the event the CM attended, Chalavadi said, “It was a ‘complete intelligence failure’. Are you unaware as to how the BJP Mahila Morcha members came to Belagavi?”

Chalavadi said that Siddaramaiah’s conduct with Additional Superintendent of Police Narayan was illustrative of the Congress government’s attitude towards law enforcement officials. “Under Siddaramaiah’s leadership, police have become mere puppets being manipulated for political reasons,” he added.

BJP Mahila Morcha president K Manjula, meanwhile, expressed outrage over the CM’s remarks on the Pahalgam attack. Lashing out at Siddaramaiah for his lack of empathy for the bereaved kin of the 26 victims of the horrific attack, Manjula said, “The demonstration in Belagavi was held in response to his insensitive comments.”

Accusing the CM of attempting to ‘physically’ attack a senior police officer, Manjula added, “This incident reveals Siddaramaiah’s inability to control his anger. This is an intolerable display of aggression. Such behaviour is unacceptable from a leader of his stature.”
