Bogus ration card holders will be punished: MinisterCriminal case for false declaration

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with officers and representatives of Fair Price Shop Owner’s Association here on Tuesday, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa warned that strict action will be initiated against officials and the FPS owners if they failed in this task. He also urged the people possessing bogus cards to surrender them immediately “The government, otherwise, will be compelled to take action,” he cautioned.

Food and Civil Supplies Minister Halappa disclosed that nearly 30 per cent of the 1.06 crore BPL cards in the State are bogus and the government has a provision to initiate legal action against bogus card holders.

The department, while issuing temporary BPL cards has obtained affidavits from the applicants declaring that they come under below poverty line category and that they do not possess the ration card. Thus it has the power to book criminal case against anyone found to have given a false declaration.

Kerosene for autos

The chief minister has directed the Transport department to crack down on autorickshaws using kerosene to run their vehicles.

It has come to notice that large quantity of kerosene is being diverted to run autos. Strict action will be initiated to curb the use, he warned.
