Bengaluru: Haveri-Gadag MP Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday lashed out at the government for withdrawing the criminal case related to the 2022 Hubballi police station attack, calling the move politically motivated.

In a statement welcoming the High Court’s ruling that termed the withdrawal improper, the former CM said, "Withdrawing cases involving attacks on police is unacceptable. The court has rightly reprimanded the government".

Echoing Bommai’s views, BJP MLC and senior leader C T Ravi accused the Congress government of shielding communal elements under the guise of public interest.

Welcoming the HC's decision to quash the order withdrawing 43 criminal cases, Ravi said, "Were these cases really about public causes, or were they protecting those who incited communal unrest and attacked police stations?".

Both leaders alleged the move was part of appeasement politics and warned it undermined law and order in the state.
