The villagers of Kodi Kanyana have been urging the authorities to construct a bridge across Seetha river in Udupi taluk for the last several years. However, the appeal of the villagers have fallen on the deaf ears of the authorities concerned and elected representatives.
With the lack of bridge across the river, the residents are facing lot of problems during monsoon. Majority of the residents of the region are agriculturists. “The houses of these farmers are situated on one side of the river while the fields are on the other side of the river.
Without the bridge, the farmers have to take the help of a boat to get the vegetables grown by them to their house. Without the boat, they have to travel 10 kilometres to reach their farm land. Owing to these problems, several farmers in the village have already said good bye to the agriculture activities,” said a villager.
When Vinay Kumar Sorake was the MP, he had dumped boulders on the river bank using MPLAD funds to construct a road to Kodi village. Though boulders have been dumped by the side of the river, the road has not been laid so far. Though the construction of a wooden bridge was started few years ago, the work was suspended.
The villagers have urged the authorities to construct a hanging bridge to help the farmers.
