Over 2000 people at various villages across the district celebrated Rakshabandhan by gifting toilets to their sisters.
They responded to Zilla Panchayat’s initiative of gifting toilets to sisters on Rakshabandhan Day to covert Belagavi into open defecation district by October 2.
“The initiative started last year has received overwhelming response,” Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer R Ramachandran said.
To achieve the target, the Zilla Panchayat is encouraging people to gift toilets on important days.
