A man was killed when a tourist bus hit the car which he was driving on NH 13 at Handelu. The deceased has been identified as Prakash Hegde (62), a Chartered Accountant working in Karkala. The mishap occurred when he was travelling from Mangaluru to Karkala.
Sand seized
Police raided an illegal sand storage unit in an arecanut garden on the banks of river Nethravathi at Koppala in Sajipamunnur of Bantwal taluk and arrested Mohammed Jiyad and Mohammed Shareef. A boat, two lorries and sand was seized in the raid. The value of the seized property is Rs 10 lakh.
Freak mishap
A rope, dangling from a door, meant for playing, proved costly for a girl who got entangled in it and died at Nattibail in Uppinangady on Friday night. The deceased is Anjali Chowhan (13), daughter of Rajkumar Chowhan and Saritha Chowhan, natives of Uttar Pradesh.
She was studying in seventh standard at Sri Rama Vidyalaya in Uppinangady. As she had a holiday on account of Good Friday, she had accompanied her mother to label beedis.
Anjali's brother had tied a rope to the main door for playing but when she returned with her mother, the rope got entangled around Anjali's neck. Though she was rushed to the hospital, she breathed her last. A case has been registered.
