The cabinet sub-committee on implementation of special status to the Hyderabad-Karnataka region will submit its report to the Cabinet on July 11.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, the committee chairman and Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister H K Patil said the committee has held two preliminary meetings to deliberate the modalities for implementing the provisions under Article 371 (J) of the Constitution to provide special status to Gulbarga, Raichur, Yadgir, Bidar, Bellary and Koppal districts in that region.
Patil said the Cabinet sub-committee will hold consultation meetings with legislators and members of parliament of the six districts on June 27 and 28. The committee will also tour the districts and hold consultations with NGOs, the general public among others between July 2 and 4.
The committee will chalk out the modalities for establishing a separate development board and equitable allocation of funds for development of the region. It will also fix the quota in public employment through local cadres and reservation in education and vocational training institutions for those who belong to the region by birth or by domicile. “We will prepare our report and submit it to the Cabinet on July 11 following which it will be forwarded to the Centre,” Patil said.
