Federation of Indian Rationalist Associations president Prof Narendra Nayak said people should not fall prey to superstitious beliefs.
At a programme titled ‘Scientific Analysis and Demonstration of Miracles’ organised by Zilla Vijnana Kendra at BGS PU college in the city on Thursday, he said people should develop scientific temperament and see through the miracles directed to fool them.
Prof Nayak said that the concept of ‘third eye’ is pure fiction. “Anybody can perform tricks, such as reading, riding a bicycle, identifying colours and objects blindfolded, with some practice. All these are similar to magic tricks. People should think rationally, “ he said.
Prof Nayak demonstrated the trick of seeing things blindfolded. He identified the colour of a sketch pen, a picture of Barbie on a water bottle and writings on a visiting card and a driving license card.
He shared tips on how to identify objects blindfolded to the students.
Later, demonstrating the trick, St Joseph School class six student S T Prerana explained that she could see things with a tiny gap near her nose when blindfolded. In order to divert the attention of people, she touched and smelt things at the same time.
T K Kautilya, a class 6 student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, said that he rode a bicycle blindfolded, using
the same trick.
Zilla Vijnana Kendra Secretary T G Krishnamurthy said that the programme intends to create a scientific temper among the students.
Kendra honorary president A N Mahesh, president Neelakanthappa and BGS College principal Surendra were present.
