Shiralakoppa (Shivamogga district): Customers of Canara Bank in Shiralakoppa were surprised on Friday when they were handed withdrawal slips written in Malayalam, which were intended for distribution in Kerala, not Karnataka. As a result, customers faced difficulties filling out the slip to withdraw cash from the bank.

Reacting to it, Anand Shirur, customer of the bank, commented that many people from rural areas only know Kannada.

However, due to the distribution of Malayalam withdrawal slips, customers had to make the effort of going up and down two floors at the Canara Bank branch to get them filled. Elderly customers found it difficult to climb even once, let alone multiple times, expressing their frustration.

Kannada activist Abdul Naveed stated that distributing checks in other languages instead of Kannada in its own region is an "unforgivable offense."

He warned that if the responsible authorities do not take action against the erring bank managers, Kannada organisations would statge protest in front of the bank.

Reacting to the incident, Canara Bank's Regional Manager Sanjeev Kulkarni promised that the issue would be investigated and addressed. He assured that the local branch managers would be instructed to procure check leaves in Kannada to facilitate customers. The withdrawal slips in Malayalam were supplied here by mistake and they were meant to be supplied to the branches in Kerala. The withdrawal slips in Kannada would be brought soon.
