Bengaluru: Exhibitor and owner of Vaibhavi Theatre, M Narasimhalu, has been elected the president of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) for 2024-2025. The chamber conducted its annual presidential election on Saturday.
Two weeks ago, the KFCC, as directed by the Karnataka State Women’s Commission, formed a long-overdue PoSH committee but put the decision on hold a few hours later. It cited the elections as the reason and promised that the committee will come into force after the new president is elected.
Speaking to DH about forming the PoSH committee, the newly elected president said: "We cannot skip government orders. We will do everything possible in the coming days for the convenience of all. The office will commence Tuesday onwards. The entire board will sit together, discuss, and take everyone’s opinion about it."
Narasimhalu also spoke about how many producers, distributors and exhibitors today are facing a tough time in the industry.
"The Kannada film industry is facing a drought. We aim to do something to improve the situation. We will sit as a team and try to do whatever we can for the progress of the industry," he added.
A total of 128 candidates from the producers, distributors and exhibitors wing contested the election for president. The post this time was reserved for exhibitors.
Narasimhalu won by a significant margin over Sundar Raj A N, owner of Vajreshwari Theatre, the KFCC in a statement.
