Chikkamagaluru: With rainfall intensifying in the district, two cars have fallen into a stream.

An auto-rickshaw driver died after a tree fell on the vehicle.

Ratnakara Hegde (45), from Shidlemane of Bhairedevaru village in Koppa taluk has been identified as the deceased. The incident took place when he was returning after dropping passengers at Koogre village on Sunday afternoon.

Two cars, meanwhile, plunged into the tributary of Hemavathi river, at Ramannana Gandi and Chakkamakki near Banakal in Mudigere taluk. The locals, however, rescued the people in the cars.

Another car overturned near the state highway after the driver lost control over the vehicle. The people in the car escaped unhurt.

Heavy rains lashed Kalasa, Koppa, Balehonnur, Aldur, Sringeri, Narasimharajapura and Chikkamagaluru city on Sunday.

Trees and electric poles have collapsed in many areas.

A situation of panic arose as the mud caved in near Kavikalgandi on Bababudengiri road. PWD personnel have placed sandbags to prevent further landslides.
