Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court has directed the government to submit a detailed response, including dam safety clearance, in connection Cauvery Aarti proposed to be held near KRS reservoir.
A division bench of acting Chief Justice V Kameshwar Rao and Justice C M Joshi ordered notices to the government, Karnataka Neeravari Nigam Limited and others in a PIL petition filed by farmer leader Sunanda Jayaram.
The petitioner said the authorities had decided to hold Cauvery Aarti without proper consideration of its implications.
The advocate for the petitioner produced photographs suggesting that work was underway. The petition said the proposal was unscientific as Cauvery Aarti would attract 20,000-25,000 people.
That apart, the construction of a stadium with seating arrangements and parking for 4,000-5,000 vehicles will potentially compromise with the dam’s safety, cause water contamination and disturb ecological equilibrium.
These activities will have an impact on agriculture lands in Cauvery basin, the plea said.
