Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa’s sons B Y Raghavendra, MP, B Y Vijendra and son-in-law R N Sohan Kumar were questioned by the CBI officials led by Subramanyeshwara Rao here on Saturday.
The three are co-accused in the Rachenahalli denotification case and the alleged Rs 20-crore kickback received by the Prerana Trust run by the family as donation from Southwest Mining Company.
The CBI had summoned the three for questioning on Friday. Raghavendra appeared before the CBI officials at 9:30 am. The CBI team questioned him for about six hours. His brother Vijendra arrived at the CBI office by 11:30 am and was questioned for about four hours. Sohan Kumar came last at around 2:30 pm and was grilled for about two-and-a-half hours.
All the three were allotted different time slots. The officials first questioned the three separately and later were grilled together. The questioning was done based on the documents the CBI recovered from the raids on the residences of Yeddyurappa and his kin on May 16.
Sources say that Raghavendra and Vijendra submitted some documents in their defence to the CBI officials during the questioning. All the three left together after the questioning was over. The trio hasn’t been called for questioning again, said the sources.
They have been informed that they would be summoned as and when required. Sources say that the CBI may summon Yeddyurappa after questioning all the other accused in the case. CBI is also expected to question some of the senior officials before summoning Yeddyurappa, the sources said.
On June 13, the CBI court dismissed the anticipatory bail petitions filed by Yeddyurappa, his sons and son-in-law in connection with the same case.
Their application for anticipatory bail is being heard by the High Court. Last month, the CBI registered the FIR against Yeddyurappa and others and raided their residential and other premises as part of the probe ordered by the Supreme Court on the recommendations of the Central Empowered Committee set up by it to look into illegal mining.
