Asserting that a CBI investigation into the allegations of bribery made against former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa was “not warranted,” the Karnataka government has informed the Supreme Court-appointed Central Empowered Committee to reject the charges.

Filing its interlocutory application in the matter of Samaj Parivarthana Samudaya versus State of Karnataka and Others, the State government said the petitioner had made the request for CBI investigation “in a casual manner and was without any merit.” Following the NGO’s petition, the apex court had asked CEC to look into the cases including the charges of payment of donations to a trust run by the former chief minister’s relatives.
