The Central Crime Branch police raided and recovered Rs 23 lakh worth cash and Rs 6 lakh worth gold ornaments from the house of a copper merchant  who had stolen cash and gold jewelry, here in Mysuru.    

The police arrested the merchant Riyaz Sharif (42) and his son Fayaz Sharif (22) in connection with a theft .

According to the police, the loot was stolen on December 31 from copper merchant Sunil's safe locker in his house on Pattegar road.

Sunil had been to Melukote on December 31, after locking the front door and leaving the key on the parapet.

Riyaz who saw this, took the key  to the house and stole the valuables.  

After taking the cash and gold, Riyaz had disposed the safe locker in a lake and fled to Nanjanagud.
