Speaking to media persons, he said the CDA is working towards the execution of various developmental projects including Mangala Corniche road, four laning of Bajpe-Atradi road, constructing fisheries road parallel to NH-17, construction of women’s fish market among others.
Explaining the progress in relation to the women’s fish market, he said, the markets will come up in different places with the financial assistance from National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB). In the first phase the market will come up in Kinnigoli and Bantwal of DK district, in Padubidri, Udupi, Katapadi, Yedtere-Baindoor and Uppunda of Udupi district and Shirali, Ankola and Karwar of Uttar Kannada district. Ten more markets will be constructed in the 2nd phase. As many as 801 full- fledged fish markets will be constructed across the three districts with the help of local government bodies, he informed.
Solar light project
In order to provide free electricity to the ‘powerless’ houses located in the interior places, CDA has decided to provide solar lighting system to the poor households, said Nagaraj Shetty.
“Talks have been held with the MESCOM officials and other experts so as to come with a concrete idea. We will identify few villages within three months and provide them the solar lights for free of cost. MESCOM will be the implementing body,” he said.
He also informed that Authority will stress on the construction of foot bridges even in the days to come. In the budget, a sum of Rs 15 crore has been announced by the government for the construction of foot bridges.
The CDA will join its hand in accomplishing the work, he stressed.
Fight for 3 causes
Meanwhile, he stated that the CDA will fight for three causes which includes removal of ban on plastics in Gutka packs for the time being, providing jobs to the MSEZ displaced families and to solve the problems raised out of UPCL.
“The Authority will hold meetings with Chief Minister at the earliest so as to discuss these matters. I have already conveyed the Chief Minister about the effect of ban on plastics in Gutka packs, on the life of areca farmers in the coastal districts,” he said.
