Government organising Tipu Jayanti in Kodagu district despite opposition is unfortunate, said Codava National Council president N U Nachappa.

Addressing reporters in Kushalnagar on Wednesday, he said that Tipu Jayanti has paved a way for hooligans from Malabar region (Kerala) to attack Kodagu.

CNC president said that Tipu Jayanti reminds one of the genocide of Kodavas by Tipu in Devatiparambu in 1785. The government should have stopped celebrating Tipu Jayanti as the celebrations in 2015 led to a series of violence in Kodagu.

"Tipu Jayanti is being used to spread terror. We urged the Governor and the Chief Secretary to protect Kodavas. Memorandum will also be sent to vice president Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Kodagu DC and SP among others," he said.
