In a review meeting on coastal security chaired by Vice-Admiral D K Joshi, who is the Chief of the Western Naval Command, the department asked for the release of about Rs 10 crore that has been allotted to carry out various works.
S M Jaamdar, Principal Secretary, Home, said Karnataka was way ahead of the other states in the implementation of the programme.
He said the department had successfully spent Rs 25 crore to set up five police stations, had purchased 15 boats and appointed 82 policemen, out of the required 108 personnel.
“Karnataka’s coastline is very secure. We are in fact No 1 in providing safety and security in the country. Karnataka has implemented works in the first phase, three months ahead of the schedule. If the Centre releases the amount for the second phase, we can start work on that immediately,” said Jaamdar.
