A team of officials led by Ved Goyal has visited the rain affected areas in Koppa and Sringeri on Wednesday.
Speaking to mediapersons after inspecting the landslide at Guddethota gram panchayat limits, Goyal said “we have visited rain-hit areas and have inspected the damaged roads, bridges, arecanut, coconut and paddy crops.
A report on loss of crops following fruit rot disease, landslide and road will be submitted to the Centre and state government in a week. The government will take a decision based on the report.”
In a memorandum submitted by taluk panchayat member B R Narayan said “the taluk has received 3,000 mm rain. With continuous rain, the farmers could not spray fungicides to check the spread of fruit rot disease.
More than 90 per cent of the crops have been damaged. Roads have developed cracks. Suitable compensation should be disbursed for the crop loss.”
Rajya Kissan Congress vice president Sachin Meega said the compensation disbursed under natural calamity fund is meagre. It should be increased to Rs 25,000 per acre.”
The team visited Sringeri. The team comprised of Vivek, K S Jacob, P J S Rao.
