Bengaluru: The union government is "systematically depriving" Raichur of development, Minor Irrigation Minister N S Boseraju said on Wednesday.

Boseraju slammed the union government for not sanctioning an AIIMS at Raichur for which an agitation has finished 1,000 days.

"The union government is systematically depriving Raichur of its rightful development – socially, politically, and economically. As per our federal structure, it is the Centre's duty to ensure social, economic, and political justice for every state. However, ever since the Modi government assumed power, the very principles of federalism have been turned upside down. The Centre's continuous disregard for the legitimate demands of Karnataka is a violation of Constitutional principles," Boseraju asserted.

Boseraju said his government has made at least 10 official requests at various levels seeking AIIMS for Raichur.

In a letter dated January 14, 2025, BJP National President and Union Health Minister J P Nadda informed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah that instead of approving AIIMS in Raichur, the Centre suggested improving healthcare facilities in the Kalyan Karnataka region through grants under the National Health Mission (NHM).

"This raises an important question — how can the state's entire healthcare infrastructure be strengthened and an institution like AIIMS be established with just NHM grants" Boseraju asked.
