Director of Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore, Ram Rajasekharan who had to taste the wrath of Kannada activists, for his alleged anti-Kannada stand, has bought peace with Kannada activists, by resolving to initiate eight point measures to conserve the language.
Following a meeting with Kannada Kriya Samithi and CFTRI Kannada Sahrudayara Balaga, at his office on Wednesday, Rajasekharan has agreed to implement a tri-lingual policy as per the Constitution (use of Kannada, Hindi and English at appropriate levels); use of tri-lingual boards in the Institute; give prominence to Kannadigas in recruitment wherever possible as per Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) rules; publishing scientific achievements of CSIR- CFTRI in Kannada for the benefit of local as well as regional masses; giving importance to Kannada, like Hindi, especially when issuing circulars and notices of general and public importance; favourably look into the matter of providing office faciities for the Kannada Sahrudayara Balaga to help it disseminate scientific information of the Institute apart from selected cultural activities; participation of the Institute in major Kannada activities, especially scientific; and to encourage non-Kannadigas to learn Kannada for their day-to-day affairs, according to a copy of the letter from Rajasekharan, issued to the media by the Samithi.
Secretary of the Samithi S R Sudarshan said, following the promises made by the afore said officer, it has been decided to drop the charges against the latter.
Rajasekharan had allegedly denied permission to the Balaga to celebrate Kannada Rajyotsava within the precincts of the Institute, inciting Kannada activists. The activists owing allegiance to Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) had smeared Rajasekharan with black ink when he arrived to attend a plenum organised by the University of Mysore at Rani Bahadur auditorium in Manasagangotri.
Vice-presidents of the Samithi Meera Nayak and M B Vishwanath, secretary Samskriti Subramanya attended the meeting, the release added.
