The prime suspect in the robbery reported on September 16 at the SBI branch at Chadchan in the district has been arrested.
This was announced at a press conference here by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP-Law and Order) R Hitendra on Thursday.
He refrained from naming the arrested person, hailing from Maharashtra, since the probe into the case was still going on. Bangles weighing 55 gram and a bike used in the heist have been recovered from him.
The suspect had recced the bank inside and outside several times before plotting the robbery, the officer said, adding that he had stolen a car in Mangalwada and used it for the purpose. He was arrested on October 7 and produced before the court.
The police have so far seized 9.01 kg of gold and Rs 86,31,220 in cash in the case.
The ADGP said that the identities of two other suspects in the case had been established and would be arrested soon. The remaining gold and cash burgled from the bank would be recovered, Hitendra said.
Three persons from Bihar who allegedly supplied pistols to the suspects had also been arrested and produced before the court, Hitendra said. They are Rakeshkumar Sahani (22), Rajukumar Paswan (21) and Rakshak Kumar Mato (21) of Samastipur.
Three masked men had entered the bank on the pretext of opening accounts. Holding knives and pistols, they threatened the bank staff, tied them up with ropes before making away with Rs 1.04 crore in cash and 20 kg of gold (worth Rs 20 crore approximately) from the strong room.
District Superintendent of Police Lakshman Nimbargi had formed seven special teams to investigate the case.
