Residents of Chamarajanagar district can heave a sigh of relief as the ‘Chamaraja Commando Force’ is on duty from Thursday.
The team is trained to tackle and prevent any incidents involving loss of property and human lives in the district.
It was officially pressed into service at the district police parade grounds in city on Thursday. Superintendent of police P Rajendra Prasad, who launched the service, said: “The team comprises 32 personnel of the District Armed Reserve Force.”
Training
A special armed training has been imparted to the commandoes in Madhya Pradesh and the jawans are physically and mentally fit to extend their services, he stated.
The force was necessary to maintain peace and also to protect public property that are intentionally vandalised during the time of unrest.
Yoga
The team will focus on maintaining law and order and steps will be taken to keep the personnel fit by conducting yoga, pranayama and karate classes, he added.
Apart from this, they will also be provided training in swimming, shooting and using weapons at the police training school in Channapatna, he explained.
Weapons
Currently three types of updated weapons have been provided including five AK-47 and five Carbine machine guns and two Insas guns.
The speciality of Insas guns is that it has one shot — three bullets capacity. Bullet proof jackets and helmets and special uniforms have been provided, he added.
