The idol, measuring one-and-a-half feet in height surfaced at a depth of three feet while the premises was being dug for renovation work. The left portion of the idol has been damaged slightly. Upon getting information, tahsildar Harishilpa visited the spot.

Prof K R Narasimhan, who has conducted research on the historic temples in Kolar district has opined that there existed a Chowdeshwari temple behind Vinayaka temple and the idol might have been buried beneath the ground over the course of time. An excavation in the vicinity of the temple might further reveal the history of the temple and details on river Kaundinya, which takes birth in Kurudumale hill region and flows to Palamaner in Andhra Pradesh, he has felt.
