Belagavi: The Suvarna Vidhana Soudha plunged into uproarious scenes after senior BJP MLC CT Ravi was accused of making ‘derogatory’ remarks against Women & Child Development Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar in the Legislative Council on Thursday.
Hebbalkar’s supporters stormed into Suvarna Vidhana Soudha and tried to attack Ravi. They were detained by security personnel.
The saga started when senior Congress MLC BK Hariprasad sought permission in the Council to protest against Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s comments on Ambedkar in Rajya Sabha. This led to a din with BJP and Congress members engaging in a slugfest, which forced Council chairperson Basavaraj Horatti to adjourn proceedings for a short duration.
Even after the adjournment, members of both parties continued their heated verbal duel, including Hebbalkar and Ravi who had locked horns. She claimed to have heard Ravi making a ‘derogatory’ remark about her. The minister lodged a complaint with Horatti.
Ravi denied the allegations and said, "I have not made such comments. Every proceeding of the house has been recorded. Let it be verified.”
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah slammed Ravi for committing a “criminal offence”. The CM said legal action would be initiated against Ravi.
