The University of Mysore (UoM) Academic Council on Wednesday decided to fully introduce Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) at undergraduate-level too coming under the purview of the university.
Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof K S Rangappa, who chaired the meeting, said that the University Grants Commission (UGC) had been initiating the university to introduce the CBSC system for undergraduate colleges.
Though the university is following the system at postgraduate (PG) level, it has to be streamlined as per the UGC. The varsity will introduce the CBSC without additional burden and any changes in the pattern, he added.
College Development Board Director Lingaraja Gandhi said that Bachelor of Education (BEd) colleges had already successfully introduced the system.
The move also facilitates the students to migrate to other universities. The affiliated colleges must be open to accept the changes and the move will be benefitting the teachers and maintaining students and teachers ratio in class will be more effective under the new system, he added.
A First Grade College principal and also member of the academic council feared that the students, who are already averse to semester system, may not easily accept the new system. When the colleges are facing severe staff crunch, the proposed system will overburden teaching faculty, he opined.
Rangappa suggested Gandhi and Prof P Nagabhushan of UoM Computer Science department to organise workshops on the CBCS for college lecturers, principals and Joint Directors of Collegiate education.
